Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at the Schenley Park Street Circuit

About this event

Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix - Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, PA

Mark your calendars for the weekend of July 18th - 20th in 2025 for one of the most unique automotive experiences ever! The signature event of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is our Race Weekend in Schenley Park and it should be on everybody’s bucket list. 125 vintage racers compete over city streets as 100,000 spectators watch the races and browse the car show, which contains 3,000 show cars, sponsor tents, vendors, a food vendors and a LiveStream stage.

There are too many activities to list everything on our calendar, so be sure to visit the Organizer's page to see everything going on during the weekend. Several of our members attended last year and had such a great time we're going back this year. Let's get a big group of ODCC members to join the Corvette section of the car show this year:

https://pvgp.org/calendar/ (scroll down to Friday July 18th. There are events over several weeks, but ODCC will only cruise up for the Schenley Park Car Show and Races)

International Recognition - The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is the nation’s largest vintage street race, with 10 days of racing, car shows, parties, parades and motorsport events. We were a finalist in the International Historic Motoring Awards for Motorsport Event of 2024. The other honored nominees represent the best in our industry: Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Velocity Invitational, Goodwood Revival and Silverstone Festival. In 2025, we celebrate our 43rd annual event. We aim to produce a world-class vintage automotive event raising funds for autistic and intellectually/developmentally disabled individuals in the Pittsburgh region. Through the generous support of our volunteers, attendees and sponsors, we have donated over $7 million since 1983.

Changes for 2025

Two Racing Circuits in Schenley Park.  The unexpected closure of the 129 year old Panther Hollow Bridge last fall directly affected the Schenley Park racing circuit.  To continue vintage racing on city streets to benefit our charities, a lot of hard work by many key PVGP volunteers resulted in two new track events.

The Panther Hollow Hill Climb will be a 1 mile sprint starting at Phipps Conservatory, and finishing just beyond the spectator area on the golf course.  The Hill Climb style of racing will open the registration for race-qualified cars not normally seen at the Schenley races.  An Unlimited category for cars over 3.0 liters will be permitted, as well as Muscle Cars, specialty Hill Climb prepared cars, Stock Cars, and historic one-offs and vintage racers.  Local owners of an authentic GT-40 and former NASCAR Truck Series Silverado race truck have committed their vehicles.  The paddock for the Hill Climb will be in front of Phipps Conservatory.  Additional details of the Panther Hollow Hill Climb, including a map of the track, may be found here:  https://pvgp.org/hillclimb/

The Schenley Oval is a new 2.1 mile circuit that uses a portion of the original track along the Boulevard of the Allies, through the hay bale chicane, veering left just before the Panther Hollow Bridge.  From there, racers snake up Overlook Drive, glide past the ice rink and Schenley Oval, and descend onto Greenfield Road. Two quick lefts send them back onto the Boulevard for another high-speed lap.  The paddock for these cars remains unchanged from previous years.  The initial response from the racers was very well received.  Rarely do they have the opportunity to race on new circuits, and every winner in their class will have bragging rights as holding a speed record for the Schenley Oval!  Additional details of the Schenley Oval, including a map of the track, may be found here:  https://pvgp.org/drivers/vintageraces-schenley/

Chevrolet / Corvette Parking
– We will remain in the same large location as the previous few years, across Schenley Drive from the American Show. The organizer of the Corvette portion of the car show will occasionally receive registration lists, and will communicate with those registered with additional information and updates as they become available. Please reach out to Bob Meyer if you have any questions regarding any of the PVGP events. Bob will either have the answer or reach out to the organizers and get it for you. You can register under the International Car Show, then select “Corvette” or “Chevrolet except for Corvette”

Vintage Indy recently announced their 3rd return to Pittsburgh with their stunning authentic Indianapolis 500 race cars. Details will be forwarded as they are released by Vintage Indy, https://vintageindyregistry.com/

GT40 Sweepstakes Car –
This year a GT40 MKI from Superformance has been secured as our 3rd Sweepstakes car. Tickets are available through Sept 7, with the drawing being held on Sept 18. The car can be seen at Dual Devils Garage in Houston PA, or at many PVGP events throughout the summer. Stop by Dual Devils and Helltown Brewing (101 W Pike St, Houston, PA 15342), and get your tickets here: https://www.tapkat.org/pittsburgh-vintage-grand-prix-association/8548n5?promo=FACEBOOK25

Car Show Registration instructions:

1. Start by registering for the American Car Show: https://pvgp.org/car-show-overview/american-car-show/ Click on the blue Vivenu Register and Pay rectangle.
2. Click on the light blue Details and Registration rectangle link
3. Select the appropriate options, then click Proceed. Click Proceed again.
4. Fill in your details, and then in the box Car Register Required click Yes, enter your phone #, and accept the waiver.

Then scroll down and in the box labelled Car Show Required, select Corvette:

Then fill in the rest of the required information and proceed to payment.
Finally, you'll need to register for a hotel room. There are a few hotels downtown that are providing a SLIGHTLY discounted rate if you register through the PVGP website. I am staying at the Courtyard Marriott Pittsburg University Center. Yes, it's more expensive than the other hotels. It's also the only one that has Self Parking. The others only offer valet parking. I stayed in this hotel last year, and they have a large parking garage for off-street parking. If  you're willing to let a valet drive your Corvette, you're welcome to choose one of the other hotels. Of course, you're also welcome to find a hotel on your own. The further from downtown you go the cheaper the rate, I'm sure, but then you get to fight Pittsburgh traffic getting to the event.
To register for a room through PVGP, go back to the American Car Show page: https://pvgp.org/car-show-overview/american-car-show/ , scroll down until you see the gray Event Connect box, and click there.

The event ends about 5:00 pm on Sunday, so you may want to stay Sunday night there, too, or just head straight home. Everyone can make their own choice. Some may want to go a week early to see the races at PITT and take part in the events during the week.

REMEMBER: You'll need to register separately for the PVGP event itself, in addition to registering on our website.
